The soundtrack of my life..

If there is one thing I love there has to be movie soundtrack/score. It brings the right mood to a movie (or even make a terrible movie tolerable). It can be sad or scary, funny or give you that feeling of anger. Where would the movies be, if it werent for the lovely composers making the perfect sound for it? or the men/woman putting together old songs to fit so perfectly into a new movie?

It's hard to choose, but here is some of my favourite scores/soundtracks (represented by one song from each movie):

Farväl Falkenberg by Erik Enocksson

The Lord of the Rings by Howard Shore

Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amelie Poulain by Yann Tiersen

Pirates of the Caribbean by Hans Zimmer and Klaus Badelt

Requiem for a Dream by Clint Mansell

Pride & Prejudice by Dario Marianelli

Atonement by Dario Marianelli
(but here only represented with the music from the trailer)

Black Hawk Down by Hans Zimmer and others

Cold Mountain by Gabriel Yared and various artists

The Lion King by Hans Zimmer, Elton John and others

Gladiator by Hans Zimmer

Pans Labyrinth by Javier Navarrete

Road to Perdition by Thomas Newman

Braveheart by James Horner

Titanic by James Horner

I’m Not There by various artists

The Hours by Philip Glass

Mio min Mio

Elizabeth the Golden Age by Craig Amstrong & Ar Rahman

Love Actually by Craig Armstrong and various artists

Rome + Juliet by Craig Armstrong and various artists

The Talented Mr.Ripley by Gabriel Yared and various artists

Desperado by Los Lobos and Antonio Banderas

++ Rocky Horror Picture Show, 42nd Street, Follow the Fleet, Cruel Intentions, Perfume, This is England, Moulin Rouge, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Passion of the Christ, Edward Scissorhands, Big Fish, Narnia, Magnolia, Brokeback Mountain, King Arthur and all Quentin Tarantino movies.

I hope you like it as much as I do.

"Sorry, we did not agree to that, that wasn't in the script"

Joe Wright (the director of Atonement, Pride & Prejudice) has teamed up with Keira Knightley once again, and has made this video to raise awereness about domestic violence. I have loads of respect for both of them for doing this (and on top of that; for free). The advert is both affective and disturbing. Take a look:

The old days makes me wanna dance!

On the 22nd I am paying a tribute to my favourite era: The Roaring 20s, and I am starting on my flapper girl/french sleeve. It's been in the planning for a long time, and I cant wait to get started.

Do you have any favourite era? Pleace, do tell!

ok, ok...I am guilty

Guilty of beeing lazy that is. I should update this blog more often, but I am just to tired these days. I should have written an update on the Academy Awards, but I feel it is abit late for that.
I have to mention one thing though:

Sean Penn won for "Milk"!

I got to see every oscarnominated movie I listed below, besides "Slumdog" and "Doubt". Many great movies this year, but my favourites have to be "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and "Milk". "Benjamin Button" for it lovely cinematography, visual effects and art direction, and "Milk" for its gripping story and the lovely performance of Sean Penn as Harvey Milk. Go and see it at once!

My name is Harvey Milk and I'm here to recruit you!

Because happiness is only real if it lasts forever?

-
"Why? Why does what was beautiful suddenly shatter in hindsight because it concealed dark truths? Why does the memory of years of happy marriage turn to gall when our partner is revealed to have had a lover all those years? Because such a situation makes it impossible to be happy? But we were happy! Sometimes the memory of happiness cannot stay true because it ended unhappily. Because happiness is only real if it lasts forever? Because things always end painfully if they contained pain, conscious or unconscious, all along? But what is unconscious, unrecognized pain?"
- Berhard Schlink (The Reader)

At the moment I am reading this book called The Reader (you have probably heard the title lately or seen the movie). I have not finished it yet, but it looks promising. It's twisting, moving and a bit different. This is however not what this blog entry was supposed to be about, but something more to do with the movie itself. The award season is here, and we are soon heading for the mother of all award shows; The Annual Academy Awards. The award show itself is not as exciting as it used to be and you always got a clear idea of who is winning (yes, I know its always been this way; politics, politics, politics), still it's a tradition and this year I am heading for Trondheim to watch it with my sister to keep the tradition going. This year I am also planning to watch many of the movies nominated before the show, and since many of the movies arrive later here in Norway I got a pretty short time to finish this little project.

Movies allready seen:
"Revolutionary Road"
"The Dark Knight"

Movies to see:
"Changeling"
"Milk"
"Doubt"
"The Duchess"
"In Bruges"
"The Reader"
"Slumdog Millionaire"
"Vicky Cristina Barcelona"
"The Wrestler"
"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"

As you can see I got a long way to go (and only a week to do it), so I will come back to you with nomination lists, and when the "big day" arrive; some fashion/show review and the winner lists.

Feeding my addiction!

This week I have been buying myself some lovely Tolkien and Lord of the Rings things. Even though I have the music and books, I had to buy myself these lovely versions. How I love the smell of new books. The Hobbit is also on its way. It's been a long time since I haved fed this addiction, so it felt good.

...and the days goes on

The Christmas came and went faster than ever before, and in some ways I am glad. I have spent most of it working longer and harder than before (something my body has had enough, and has given me the flu to get me down in the bed), and I was mentaly ready for a new year anyway. Old mistakes and regrets are in the past, and I will try to do better this year (just have to get over this bloody flu).

Well, I haven't done much since the new year arrived, so the only thing worth mentioning is my little shopping trip with my friend; Anne-Lene. Here is what I got:

Everyday is like Sunday...

..or at least I wish it was. This is my second day off work this Christmas. I’m a bit worn out, but its only three days left. At least I get some good feedback on my work. Look what I found on the back of the paper today:

I can’t really be bothered to translate it, but it’s nice that a customer actually takes the time to mention me on the back of a paper.

Today ,and yesterday, I finished the Christmas preparations. Yesterday I wrapped the Christmas gifts, and today my sister, my dad and I made Christmas bonbons. The rest of the day I will spend reading and eating cherry ice cream with chocolate bits. Yum!

Morning Theft

Time takes care of the wound, so I can believe.
You had so much to give, you thought I couldn't see.
Gifts for boot heels to crush, promises deceived
I had to send it away to bring us back again.
Your eyes and body brighten silent waters, deep.
Your precious daughter in the other room, asleep.
A kiss "Goodnight" from every stranger that I meet.
I had to send it away to bring us back again.
Morning theft, and pretender left, ungrateful.
True Self is what brought you here, to me.
A place where we can accept this love.
Friendship battered down by useless history,
Unexamined failure.
What am I still to you?
Some thief who stole from you?
Or some fool drama queen whose chances were few?
Love brings us to who we need, a place where we can save
A heart that beats as both siphon and reservoir.
You're a woman, I'm a calf.
You're a window, I'm a knife.
We come together making chance into starlight.
Meet me tomorrow night, or any day you want.
I have no right to wonder just how, or when.
And though the meaning fits, there's no relief in this.
I miss my beautiful friend.
I had to send it away to bring her back again.

The hardest part is to hate someone you used to love. I don't want to hate, I just want peace.
Please, do not forget me, and please do not act this way.
