The Best of Week 44

"The Best of" will become verry short this week, simply because I dont have the time and because I spent the last week working like hell. When I didn't work, I finished the book I started last week (fantastic!) and started on (and finished) the 4th season of Lost. So...



The best series of week 44:
Lost
I stopped watching it completely when the second season started on tv, but then I started on the beginning again, and my oh my; Its so exciting. I can mention several tv-series that are better, but nothing can compete with Lost when it comes to a nerve wrecking plot. I bought season 4 at the beginning of the week, and I soon finished it.

The Best of Week 43

CD of the week:
Misery is a Butterfly by Blonde Redhead

I've had some songs from this album on my computer (with some songs from earlier albums) and also had their latest album in my cd collection, but I never got myself around to buy this album. We made some cuts in the cd catalog last week at work (I work full time in a record store called Platekompaniet), and this cd got cut down from 169 NOK to 59.90 NOK. As you can understand, I could not let this opportunity go and bough myself the cd. Blonde Rehead is truly a fantastic band. I don't even know what to compare them with, so I recommend you buy yourself one of their cd's (or take a look at their myspace) and start listening to them.

Songs from the album worth listening to: "Elephant Woman", "Misery is a Butterfly", "Falling Man", "Messenger", "Melody" and "Equus".

and I have to mention that the cd cover and booklet are simply stunning.



Movie of the week:
Pandoras Box
Again I will trust imdb to explain the plot better than I:

"In Weimar Germany, Lulu is an entrancing and beautiful free-spirited girl who
lives on the beneficences of the men who fall under her powerful yet somehow
innocent spell. Her current paramour is the highly-respectable Dr. Schön, but
even his handsome son Alwa cannot resist the draw which Lulu exerts. Dr. Schön
comes to believe he must marry Lulu, even though he has been engaged to a proper
young woman of his own class, when his affair with Lulu becomes public. At their
marriage celebration, Schön becomes jealously enraged by her behavior, and
tragedy ensues. Although Lulu appears to escape the fate that this tragedy would
suggest, her unwitting power over men leads her, and several of the men, in a
seemingly inescapable spiral downwards toward destitution and further tragedy."

The movie is highly entertaining (and abit involuntary funny at some points, but what can be expected?) The movie is visually beautifull with its costrumes, lightning and sets. You also get to see the gorgeous Louis Brooks in action. With her overdramtic body language you will soon find her a spoiled brat, but you can’t stop beeing facinated by her charm.



Series of the week:
House M.D
I will not spend alot of time explaining this series, because I will explain my favourite series later in another post (thanks to Serenas great idea in her blog). I started on the second series (again!) this weekend and all I can say is that when I was in the hospital I really missed a sarcastig and charming doctor like Gregory House.



Book of the week:
The House at Riverton by Kate Morton

"Summer 1924: On the eve of a glittering Society party, by the lake of a grand
English country house, a young poet takes his life. The only witnesses, sisters
Hannah and Emmeline Hartford, will never speak to each other again.

Winter 1999:

the cracks. A shocking secret threatens to emerge; something history has
forgotten but Grace never could."

I only bought this book because of its beautifull cover and because it reminded me of “The Landscape of Love” by Sally Beauman. I have to say that this book is really a good read. The characters are facinating and the plot ever so exciting. I am only half way through the book, but its really difficult to let it be. I just want to finish it right away. Its a big bonus that the story takes us back in time and that it mix actual events with a fictional story. And who can say no to the 20s? If you like Sally Beaumans “The Landscape of Love” and Ian McEwans “Atonement”, you will surely like this one.



Buy of the week:
Long organic and striped sweater from H&M
Beacuse I’ve alread written about my high nostrils, I will have to put this sweater in my best buys this week. It feels really soft and I have worn it all weekend (even though I’ve just been inside the house).



Place of the week:
The bed in my sisters old bedroom.
Now you really must think I’m obsessed with beds and sleep. Well, its getting dark outside and I’m always tired from work, so what can I girl dream of? Its usually my dad who sleeps in this bed, but his weekend my mum and dad were away, so I took all my pillows and quilts, and simply dozed off with House and a good book.

The Best of Week 42

Every week I will try to this little thing, just so I can summon up and recommend some of the best cds, books etc from the week that just have ended.


CD of the week:
Hollywood, Mon Amour by Marc Collin (Nouvelle Vague)
Classic old 80s songs (from 80s movies) we all have heard (and seen) before. Like Nouvelle Vagues earlier cd's the songs are less upbeat than the originals (which suits me perfectly, since I'm no big fan of the 80s.)
Marc Collin (and singers like Juliette Lewis, Skye and Nadesh) gives us new and greater versions of songs like "Call Me", "Eye of the Tiger", "When Doves Cry", "What a Felling", "Footlose" etc.
The cd's highlights are "What a Feeling", "Footlose", "This is Not America", "Arthur's Theme" and "Reality".


Song of the week:
Karma Police by Radiohead
Never been a fan of Radiohead, but I saw them live at Roskilde this year and noticed a song I had heard before, but never really noticed. This week I got a friend to send it over to me and my oh my, it has gone on repeat on my computer for a while. AI love the last part of the song. "...and for a minute there, I lost myself"


Movie of the week:
Lars and the Real Girl
This little movie took me really by susprise.
This is what imdb says about the plot:

"Lars (Ryan Gosling) is an
awkwardly shy young man in a small nothern town who finally brings home the girl
of his dreams to his brother and sister-in-law's home. The only problem is that
she's not real - she's a sex doll Lars ordered off the internet. But sex is not
what Lars has in mind, but rather a deep, meaningful relationship. His
sister-in-law is worried for him, his brother thinks he's nuts, but eventually
the entire town goes along with his delusion in support of this sweet natured
boy that they've always loved."

The movie is not only very funny, but also insanely cute and sad at the same time. I laughed and cried all through the movie, and it sure did go straight to my heart. Actors like Ryan Gosling, Emily Mortimer and Kelli Garner makes the characters utterly loveable

Burn After Reading
I had some high expectations about this movie, but it sure didn't dissapoint.

Book of the week:
The Forest House by Marion Zimmer Bradley
Not really a great book, but I havent really read anything else this week, so I guess its not really a recommendation. It takes us back to the first century AD, to the old Celtic tribes, the Roman Empire etc. The plot is abit dull and the love story abit cliche, but If you are are like me and are intrested in these things it is still worth a read. Its all fiction though, but Bradleys books are still based on old myths, history and legends.


Food/beverage of the week:
Lipton Forest Fruit Tea.
It both tast and smell all nice, and worms my body in this cold Autumn weather.


Place of the week:
My bed
Been tired and abit down the whole weekend and all I can think of is my bed. So right now, my bed is the best place to be, but please dont steal it.
