Just an hour until the Academy Awards begins, so here are my small Oscar predictions and thoughts:
w = previous wins
n = previous oscar nominations (that weren't wins)
Best Picture
The Artist
David Langmann
The Descendants
Jim Burke, Alexander Payne (1w,2n) , Jim Taylor (1w,1n)
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
Scott Rudin (1w,2n)
The Help
Brunson Green, Chris Columbus, Michael Barnathan
Hugo
Graham King (1w,1n), Martin Scorsese (1w, 6n)
Midnight in Paris
Letty Aronson, Stephen Tenenbaum
Moneyball
Micheal de Luca (1n), Rachael Horovitz, Brad Pitt (2n)
The Tree of Life
Sarah Green, Bill Pohland, Dede Gardner, Grant Hill (1n)
War Horse
Stephen Spielberg (3w, 7n) , Kathleen Kennedy (6n)
Thoughts: There were very few of the nominated movies I really loved this year. Even though I enjoyed some of them, most of them were so-so. Since it won an Golden Globe for best motion picture, The Descendants may win this award as well (I really hope not, because it was my least favorite movie of the year). Still, I do think that The Artist will win, but I hope that The Tree of Life wins. It was one of last year's most breathtaking movies. I really loved Midnight in Paris as well, but it is hardly a ground breaking movie.
Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role
Demián Bichir
for A Better Life
George Clooney (1w, 3n)
for The Descendants
Jean Dujardin
for The Artist
Gary Oldman
for Tinker, Tailore, Soldier, Spy
Brad Pitt (2n)
for Moneyball
Thoughts: I really hope that Gary Oldman wins this award. He has been overlooked for so many years now, and I really loved him as Smiley. I do think that Jean Dujardin will win though, and he deserves it as well.
Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role
Glenn Close (5n)
for Albert Nobbs
Viola Davis (1n)
for The Help
Rooney Mara
for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Meryl Streep (2w, 14n)
for The Iron Lady
Michelle Williams (2n)
for My Week With Marilyn
Thoughts: Meryl Streep will deffinetly win this one, and she really deserves it. I think she did a suberb role in The Iron Lady, and noone can become another person so completely as Streep does. Both Viola Davis and Michelle Williams are good candidates for this award as well, and even though I will be glad to see Williams win for her portrayal of Monroe, I do think and hope that Streep will take home this award
Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role
Kenneth Branagh (3n)
for My Week With Marilyn
Jonah Hill
for Moneyball
Nick Nolte (2n)
for The Warrior
Christopher Plummer (1n)
for Last Station
Max von Sydow (1n)
for Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
Thoughts: I would love for Christopher Plummer to win, but I do think that Nick Nolte or Kenneth Branagh will take home the award.
Best Performance by an Actress in Support Role
Bérénice Bejo
for The Artist
Jessica Chastain
for The Help
Melissa McCarthy
for Bridesmaids
Janet McTeer (1n)
for Albert Nobbs
Octavia Spencer
for The Help
Thoughts: This one is abit tricky. I do love Jessica Chastain, but I do think she should have been nominated (and been winning) for her role in The Tree of Life. I do think and hope that Bérénice Bejo will take home the award, but Octavia Spencer may be a possible candidate as well.
Best Achievement in Directing
Woody Allen (2w,14n)
for Midnight in Paris
Michel Hazanavicius
for The Artist
Terrence Malick (1n)
for The Tree of Life
Alaxander Payne (1w,2n)
for The Descentants
Martin Scorsese (1w,6n)
for Hugo
Thoughts: I do hope that Terrence Malick will win this award for his wonderful directing in The Tree of Life, but I'm afraid that Alexander Payne will take it home.
Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen
The Artist
Michel Hazanavicius
Bridesmaids
Kristen Wiig, Annie Mumolo
Margin Call
J.C. Chandor
Midnight in Paris
Woody Allen (2w,14n)
Nader and Simin - A Seperation
Asghar Farhadi
Thoughts: First of all, I don't think Bridesmaids have nothing to do in the Academy Awards. I do think that The Artist will win this one, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Midnight in Paris. Still, I would like for Nader and Simin to win as well, but I do think it will take home the award for best Foreign Movie.

Thoughts: These smaller awards are abit more difficult to say anything about. I do hope that The Tree of Life will win this award though, because it's cinematography is beyond stunning. Still, I do think that any of these nominees may take home the price

The Artist
Mark Br
Hugo
Sandy Powell (3w,6n)
Jane Eyre
Michael O'Connor (1w)

Martial Corneville, Lynn Johnson, Matthew W Mungle (1w,2n)
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt 2
Nick Dudman, Amanda Knight, Lisa Tomblin

Thoughts: I would be happy for Harry Potter winning this one, but I do hope and think that The Iron Lady will win. The makeup used for aging was extremely well done!

The Artist
Ludovic Bource
Hugo
Howard Shore (3w)
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy

Unfortunatly, I have not been able to see enough of the movies nominated for Short Films, Foreign Language Film, Animated or Documentaries, to say anything about it.
